Riding and Striding towards a great day for the Church
I HAVE the privilege of being the Publicity Officer for the Leicestershire Ride and Stride event-which takes place on Saturday (September 13th.)
It sees hundreds of people cycling and walking around as many of Leicestershire's beautiful places of worship as they can-and being sponsored for it.
The money raised is then split 50:50 between the churches of those taking part and, via grants, is given to churches in need of repair by the Leicestershire Historic Churches Trust.
Last year, county wide, a whopping #40,000+ was raised.
This year organisers hope to break through the #50,000 mark.
Not only is this about great exercises, but is also a chance to recognise the important role the Christian Church plays in our communities-from Sunday services, to coffee mornings, children's clubs and much, much more.
On the day many Churches put on special displays and have refreshments ready.
And you don't have to be a Christian to take part, either.
On the day I'll be recording pieces for Hinckley's hospital radio station, Castle Mead Radio, and penning updates for my blog and 'twitter' websites; so please take a look.
Let's make it a day that lasts long in the memory.

On this David Cameron may have point
In one of the Sunday newspapers Conservative Leader David Cameron calls on Labour MPs to either back Gordon Brown or, in his words, to sack him.
With so much bile being spilt, both behind the scenes and in public (witness former Home Secretary Charles Clarke's intervention in this week's New Statesman magazine) it does seem that the crunch point must come soon and that the PM's own MPs must either offer him their whole hearted support until the next election or dump him and elect someone new-giving them at least a couple of years until an election has to be called.
But would a David Miliband or Harriet Harman make any difference to the outcome?
The election result matters for, whatever the failures of this Government, many people think that only Labour truly cares and can help the most unfortunate and vulnerable people in this land of ours.
So, it's over to you Labour MP's...the choice is yours.
Back him or sack him.

Success for my political blog
The political blog that I write, (find it at: www.mathewonpolitics.blogspot.com), has been included in a book.
It's listed in the TotalPolitics Guide to Political Blogging 2008.
I love writing about politics and am really chuffed that my blog's getting some national recognition.
So, give it a look and let me know what you think!
